Anyone know how to successfully groom a maine coon cat?

without sedating her? I have a beautiful maine coon cat aptly names "sasquatch" by my husband. she's really more like a dog than a cat. She loves to cuddle, thinks that she should be eating whatever i'm eating, and always wants to go outside. the only problem is that she gets these big clumps near her bum and i have a really hard time combing them and i hate to cut them out. she fights me tooth nail, literally, and i feel so bad about having to do it. I do have some kitty sedative but i hate having to drug her up simply to groom her. i'm anyone knows of a good way to brush her with all having to fight her i would greatly appreciate it!

  1. She is a pretty kitty. The way I successfully groom my cats is to take them to the groomer and pay her to do it, lol. I do the short haired ones myself.

  2. I was going to do that but the vet told me it ws going to be like $150 to have it done because they would have to sedate her to do it and i can't afford to spend that much when I could just shave all her fur off myself and start from scratch. but i'm trying to avoid doing that, but my husband is all for it.

  3. Boy that sure is expensive. I had to have one of my boys shaved once because he got really bad and they didn't sedate him. We have used the same lady for years though, she does this in her house as business, it is a real professional set up though, and we just drop our kitties off and they keep them however long it takes, and the one cat I mentioned he would get very upset so they would do some, then let him sit, then do some more, and then leave him alone, then do some more. But not all groomers will be willing to do that I suppose. With our boy it was the best solution really, and we were glad we did it, although he looked a bit humiliated, lol, and we tried to stay on top of it after that in between regular grooming visits.
